“Candon: Her Genesis and Passions” written by
EMILIO ALVIAR DE PERALTA  (1920 –? )

Born on May 28, 1920 in Candon, he was a lawyer, a nationalist,
an academic scholar and a prolific writer. A member of the Civil
Liberties Union, he was in the forefront in the struggle against  “all
and every form of oppression and colonialism”. He was the
recipient of several awards including the Claro M. Recto Memorial
Award from the UP Law Center, the Don Isabelo Abaya Medal of
Honor from the Candonians of Southern California, Inc.  

In 1998, the City of Candon presented him the “Cry of Candon
Gold Medal Award” in recognition of “his ardent love for freedom
and for country, and his passionate nationalist ideology, and
writings reflective of the spirit and meaning of the Cry of ’98
keeping us always on the vanguard for the freedom we cherish
and the town we love”

Attorney Emilio De Peralta passed away in Manila
Reynaldo Arquero Duque was born on October 29. 1945 in
Bagani Ubbog, Candon, Ilocos Sur.
He has worked as Managing Editor of Liwayway magazine.
Ilokano (GUMIL) Filipinas. Duque  is a fictionist, novelist,
poet, playwright, radio/TV/movie scriptwriter, editor, and
Ilocano, Filipino, and English.

Duque has garnered  literary awards in English, Ilocano and
Filipino including  the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards
for Literature, the Palihang Aurelio Tolentino,  Gawad CCP
sa Panitikan,  Gov. Roque Ablan Awards for Iluko literature,  
Golden Leaf Literary Awards,  from the Talaang Ginto and
Gantimpalang Collantes of the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa
and many others.

His book "Candon" won the First Prize in the Filipino Epic
Category of the Philippine Centennial Literary Awards in 1998
