Candonians of Hong Kong


             CANDONIANS HONG KONG ASSOCIATION

       Founded in 1996, the Candonians Hong Kong Association (CHKA) stands out among the
over one hundred Filipino organizations in Hong Kong, as a vibrant, involved and dynamic
association.  

       Organized by Overseas Filipino Workers ( "OFWs"), the current membership represents
over fifty families from Candon City. Their mission is to extend mutual aid and assistance to
fellow Candonians, to foster Filipino culture and moral values, and to provide help to the
community. To date there are over 130,000 “global Filipinos” in Hong Kong.

       Candonians Hong Kong Association boasts an impressive list of accomplishments that
includes a scholarship program for children of OFW returnees, funding for the construction of a
children playground in Candon City Plaza and a waiting shed in front of the Candon City
Hospital, assistance program to indigent families, distribution of rice to the various barangays in
Candon City last Christmas 2008, SARANAY (death benefits) and termination assistance to all
members of Candonians Hong Kong Association

       Candonians Hong Kong Association is actively involved in community affairs aimed at
preserving the rights and welfare of OFWs. The organization is listed with the Philippine
Consulate and Hong Kong government agency.

       Held on every 3rd Sunday of November, the anniversary celebration of the Candonians
Hong Kong Association is a highly popular event in the Filipino community. Government officials
from Candon City, Ilocos Sur was yearly invited and attended the celebration which is the major
fund raising event for the organization. In November 2008 anniversary celebration, government
officials from Candon City, Ilocos Sur headed by City Mayor Allen G. Singson together with
barangay Captains were the special guests at the celebration.

       Rechilda Gutierez Cortez from Tablac is the current President, Johanna Valdez Perez from
Patpata is the General Secretary and Remely Valdez from Sabuanan is the Press Relations
Officer.
